the debate rages on...

Today, I was reading an interesting thread of comments on a blog, debating whether or not trans fats should be banned... In other words is it more of a personal or public health issue? Should the government really regulate if people aren't going to be responsible for what they put in their own bodies?

Things like smoking affect those around us... but if I eat a trans fat laden pastry, does it really harm my neighbor? Many argue it does because of insurance and social services costs... others argue that people are simply too dumb to make smart choices for themselves.

Either way, I prefer the market pressures that are causing restaurants and fast food chains to remove the trans fatty acids from their foods, more than the legislative bans.
