The trans fat snowball...
More restaurants are FINALLY jumping on the bandwagon to eliminate or reduce trans fats from the foods they are serving. A year after the FDA required trans fats on packaged food labels, the public and local governments are starting to realize the importance of this issue. Of course, restaurant lobby groups are still dragging their feet, but that is to be expected.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported this quote from the head of the California restaurant association, Jot Condie:
So, the news is good in a country where the average person reportedly ingests almost 5 pounds of transfat in margarine and shortening annually. Replacing this with good fat is a remarkable trend.
However, make sure to remember that fat is still high in calories and overeating any food is not healthy... :)
